Summer Programs

In addition to the services offered throughout the year, we will be offering a few specila programs during the summer to focus on skill acquisition and maintenance of skills during the summer months.

Sibling Therapy

Designed to facilitate relationship development between siblings and enhance interactions during play and leisure times.  Siblings will learn techniques and develop sensitivity to feel more confident in their role as a sibling of a child with exceptionalities.  Caregiver input will tailor this program to benefit the entire family.

Sensory Play Group

For children whose success is enhanced while they are “on the move”, this small group program will offer opportunities for improved spatial awareness, motor coordination, joint attention, and understanding of social play in an indoor playground.

Self Regulation

This group program is based on the book, How Does Your Engine Run?®  by Williams & Shellenberger and teaches children to choose appropriate strategies to change or maintain states of alertness.  These strategies may be particularly helpful for children who have sensory dysfunction, ADHD, anxiety, or ASD.

Tutoring

Our tutoring programs provide intensive instruction in specific academic areas, using motivating and kinesthetic teaching methodologies to enhance a child’s skills.  A variety of programs may be used to teach reading (traditional phonological awareness, Orton Gillingham Method, Oelwien Top-Down Method), writing (Handwriting Without Tears, Dot-Prompt Method, Write Out Loud, typing), creative writing, mathematics, or a combination.

Many of our group programs incorporate typical peer models to enhance each participant’s social experience.  Children are carefully grouped with peers who are compatible and will benefit from the same program content and teaching methods.
